Alla Bochkovskaya — Blogger, co-founder of a prosthetic leg covers production, Moscow, Russia

Alla Bochkovskaya turned a personal experience with prosthetics into a small but growing business in Moscow, Russia — making affordable, attractive prosthetic covers while inspiring others through her blog that life with a disability is no obstacle to living freely and with dignity.
Watch the story

Alla is a young mom, living in Moscow. After suffering a heavy injury in a car accident, she decided to not give up and continue living normally. This mindset became the basis of her business and new life.

Once, when she was getting new prosthetics, she came up with the idea of getting rid of the foam cover, which was robust, unattractive and unpleasant to use. For a while, she walked on a prosthetic limb without the foam cover, just with a bare prosthesis. There were only a few covers on the market, all of them being very expensive. Her main idea was to make covers affordable, easier to use and, of course, aesthetically attractive.

Alla claims that there are many people in Russia, who feel ashamed of wearing prosthetics. She sees her mission in changing the attitudes of people with disabilities on the one hand, and the environment in general, on the other hand.

Along with another investor, she started running a small business where she is in charge of the aesthetical part of prosthetic covers and their marketing. Though their enterprise is only at its beginning, it has good prospects and the potential to grow. She is also active as a motivator and coach, running a blog and being a living example to others that life with a disability is not an obstacle to living a free, dignified life.
