Non-profit organization (Civil Society Organization)
A non-profit organization is characterized by the fact that the organization’s property — including profits generated through entrepreneurial activities — is not distributed among its members. The organization is entitled to carry out entrepreneurial activities in accordance with the goals defined in its charter, to manage its property and the outcomes of its activities for that purpose, and to establish or become a member of a commercial organization in the manner prescribed by law.
A defining feature of this organizational form is its focus on addressing social problems affecting a large portion of society or specific target groups.
The legal basis for this type of activity is provided by the Civil Code of the Republic of Armenia and the Armenian Law on Non-Governmental Organizations.
With regard to state support, no specific support mechanisms are currently in place. Neither direct nor indirect financial support, nor tax relief, discounts on social security contributions, or advantages in public procurement go beyond the general statutory regulations applicable to all organizations. There are likewise no specific provisions for educational or informational support, or any other forms of targeted assistance for this organizational form.
